Boromir - 01 - Going for a run

[[ooc: interested in both replies to his network query or in person replies in the park.

Since arriving, Boromir has been rather despondent.  The vastness of the Teuberg unnerves him and to get anywhere where he is told things are happening he has to take one of these metal carts that the natives call trollies.  The constant vibration makes him queasy and he does not find them at all pleasant.

While waiting for the powers that be to get back in touch with him regarding his application for military service, he's been filling his time with exercise and workouts.  He's become quite the fixture in his neighbourhood with daily runs, and today he's doing laps of the park at the renaissance centre.  Stopping by a water fountain for a drink, he ponders that though he's never been stronger or fitter (especially for a dead man, shudder), he hasn't engaged in proper combat practice or swordplay since arriving.  He takes out his communicator from a pouch and painstakingly taps out a message.

"Greetings, I am Boromir of Gondor.  Would anyone be interested in some sparring practice either with swords or unarmed?"  He beams with pride, sweat dripping off him from his run, he was at least getting the hang of the written messages on this piece of sorcerous machinery.

Zero was probably the first to notice the message. The first chance since coming here for a battle. Between his boredom and the fact he hasn't had much practice of his own since arriving, he wouldn't pass up the opportunity.

"I'd be glad to spar with you. Where would you like to meet?"

[ Since arriving-- Cloud's basically done the opposite. He's not even sure who his neighbors are, in the temporary housing, he's gone out so little. Exploring without any aim loses its appeal fast whenever he's reminded of where they really are - floating somewhere in the far reaches of unfamiliar space.

So he pays attention to the weird - computer? phone? - whatever it is that's just as full of questions as everything else, around here. But at least is safer to watch than strangers face-to-face. Even if, up til now, nothing's really piqued his interest, there, either. Except-- ]

You know how to use a sword?

The message was well-received. Tron himself was more than a little bit at ends, still trying to decide which User-type function to pick. They seemed fairly mutually exclusive, and Sam was no help as far as offering advice beyond suggesting that he check himself in for tutorial.

He was considering an advertised orientation course for catching newcomers up with the fleet's technology, culture, and history, at least, but that still didn't do a whole lot for his boredom. Boromir's offer of a spar was the most interesting thing to happen for a few days.

The signal wasn't coming from far away, either, so Tron headed over to the park to see if he could find the User in question.

"Are you still interested in sparring?"

Well, I'm certainly not about to let months go by without proper practice.

[Kids these days with their guns and rocket launchers and such. At least somebody else here appreciates a good blade.]

Hnf. Hardly be fair for you.

[U-unless Deadlock stuffed himself in his stupid noodlebot. He's hoping everyone's forgotten about, yeah, all that.]

[Del's attention is somewhat piqued by the idea of sparring, but her curiousity is currently the stronger impulse, and she just has to ask.]

. . . Muka, the hell're you from where they're still swordfighting on a regular day?

Well, I'm pretty good with a sword. I've been practicing martial arts for a few years now, so if you're hurting for sparring partners I'll do my best to give you a challenge.

[ In this case it's more like envy than surprise. ...Though it's still a little bit surprising, considering. ]

Oh. That means you're from someplace else, too, right? I guess I haven't seen a lot of people carrying swords since I got here.

It's weird.

Kevin is merely feeding the...well, they do look like pigeons, don't they? when he overhears Boromir of Gondor talking to the communicator.

'I would never dream of sparring, sir, though I can offer healing if things become too exciting.'

Moreover, he doesn't mind standing aside and casting bets on the contenders.

Tron wished he still had his actual gridsuit-- the tight-fitting jumpsuit was all right, but he was fairly certain the fabricator had messed up on the armored plates. Better protective gear seemed to be the provenance of the military, and he didn't have the credits to try his luck with any dealers in unauthorized wares. (There had to be some. Any population center large enough sprouted them eventually, particularly since this place didn't have the same system of ID locks.)

Boromir, at least, seemed interesting. Tron wholeheartedly approved of the appraising look.

"I don't have a sword now," Tron said-- explaining batons had proven a bit useless when he had wandered back in the vain hope that one might have ported in with him anyway, "Unarmed would be preferable unless you have a spare."

I certainly don't have any scheduling conflict with that. [There is so little to actually do here, and it's making him go a little stir-crazy even after a short time.]

I prefer blades.

"I normally prefer the use of my saber, but I wouldn't mind some unarmed combat practice. I will be with you in a moment," Zero typed up before he started for the Renaissance Centre. He was feeling just a little eager, so he ran for the Centre so that he wouldn't keep this Boromir waiting, using his booster jets for the occasions dash as he did.

[Action-Renaissance Centre]

Zero arrived not too long after sending his message, about only five minutes after he started running. He looked around for a moment before seeing a single man near where he stood. He approached the man from the side as he asked, "Excuse me, but are you Boromir?"

Jaina's wrapping up her own run when she overhears the man speaking into his communicator. She pauses in her step, before figuring it won't hurt anything, and turning around. She wipes a hand across her forehead to clear the sweat from it.

"Sorry, couldn't hope but overhear. You want a sparring partner?"

Ha. At least by now Deadlock's used to squishy gross humans. Superior robotic life form, right here.

"Decepticon." That's what he is. And damn proud of it.

Also, terrible at conversation.
