Doom 3 Event: Part 2 Log

Who: Everyone!
What: Part 2 of the Event. Kicking butt mostly.
When: Anytime during the event
Where: In the rip and around it.
Warnings: Violence.

To say that demons patrolled the area would be a lie. They didn't have the mental process to actively work up something of that sort. Instead, they simply waited where they were, hoping for someone to come across their paths. For some demons, they'd happily get in fights with their own brethren if provoked into it. Their only allegiance seemed to lay in causing as much chaos as possible and straight up killing.

Occasionally, they ventured outside the hole in space but with the current incursion of others, they tended to stay inside. All the better fighting took place inside anyway. And other than the guests, there were more than a few AFLAK agents inside the hole. The demons were definitely ready for the amusement that was inevitably going to be showing its face.

[OOC: Everyone is free to start their own threads with this! Saturday, the crystal destruction thread will go up. NPCs/enemies will visit threads and feel free to request any that you want specifically.]

Lafiel paused. The undead wasn't exactly in her training routine. The best her brain could come up with was 'dreadfully ill', 'wounded', and also 'potentially delirious', judging from the way they walked... shuffled. Which was not a good mix with lethal weapons; Lafiel would rather not shoot their own side, but she'd also rather not lose the base camp because of accident or friendly fire. "Stand down and report!" she yelled, already slipping behind cover.

Besides make Lafiel lose whatever reluctance to shooting them. Anyone who threatened the safety of her, her people, and her... well, in this case, fortification, was asking to be shot. She estimated how much of her had to be exposed to aim and fire, hoping the zombies had slow reflexes or bad aim.

Either way, she didn't trust that her defenses would last forever, even under only small arms fire. And being under cover meant she had limited ability to see if anything else approached.

Lafiel quickly shifted to the side, trying to aim, squeeze off a shot, then duck back before the rest of the zombies realized she was a target.

Lafiel swore under her breath. "Base camp to all teams. If you are close, some additional fire would be appreciated. We are under attack, by what appear to be sick, delusional marines. I will report back as the situation changes."

She then popped up for another shot.

"What the hell is wrong with these people?" Lafiel yelled. At least the intent on damage meant she could pick her moments to strike and hope to have her ammo outlast the opponents'. On the other hand, there was the worry her defenses would fall.

Jinto slid in beside her, having been herded to cover by the zombies' spastic fire. His arms were full of laser pistol cartridges.

"They don't seem very healthy!"

"What was the clue?" Lafiel said. "If we don't do something, we'll be joining them." This time, she tried to deliberately aim at zombies out of ammo; the small arms fire was dangerous, but so was anyone charging the ammo.

"Definitely the smell." He said, pressed against cover, readying a power pack to be used in its secondary function, as a thrown grenade. "Is anyone in this corridor? If I brought you an atmosphere suit maybe we could release the emergency section locks..."

Lafiel quickly let off a burst of fire, less well aimed than her previous ones. "We need to clear them and then restore atmosphere. We need to keep this section clear for the teams' retreats. One moment."

It was dangerous. They'd need to restore the air in order to let others back through the rift, besides any of the robots or teams with suits and cutting gear.

She thumbed the radio on with her other hand. "This is base. We need to vent atmosphere in this section to clear out hostiles." She had stopped caring if the zombies were sick crew or the locals; she'd care again when they stopped trying to kill her. "Clear the section and stand by. I'll call the all-clear once there's atmosphere to breathe."

Next time, she might recommend just having everyone go in with vacuum. Except there were hostages farther down. Wait... "Have teams cleared the full section for hostages?"

Jinto stopped holding his breath when Lafiel took that creature out. He hefted his laser pistol too, let off some spray-and-pray fire. It had been a long time since he'd had to fire one last and he didn't remember being very good at it then either.

"They don't seem like the type to take hostages. More like rabid animals, really. Will you be alright here while I get us some suits?"

Lafiel regarded them. "An sensitive operation."

She wasn't feeling kindly towards the AFLAK, since 'unleashing poorly-tested dangerous technology on the fleet' should be a shootable offense; but some of the agents could be junior enough that they didn't know how much testing the technology needed. "If you aren't going to assist, please exit the rift."

Lafiel echoed his thoughts, though as usual she was the only one blunt enough to air them.

"Are any of our people in there?" He asked.

"Define 'a ways back'." Lafiel was staying under cover but contributing what fire she could.

"We'll at least need to seal some of these bulkheads. We can't hold this position forever." He looked distinctly uncomfortable as he said it, flattened against cover. He knew what it was like to be left behind, even though he didn't blame them for it.

"Yes. Is that a problem? They're enough of a threat to our lives that we can't simply sedate them and hope the medical staff can fix them." Lafiel's voice was challenging. Because she thought she detected an objection. Also, she wanted to fight someone, and the zombies weren't as satisfying.

And because spacing what once were loyal (or at least not causing her any problems) people did bother her a bit when she didn't know if there was a cure or she was providing a mercy.

"Roger!" Jinto said, scrambling away...but with a quick, concerned glance back at Lafiel. He didn't quite trust AFLAK, with theit carte blanche authority. With her quick temper it could be a dangerous combo. But he had no choice.

A minute later, over the comms: "Sealing bulkhead 501 then venting atmosphere in thirty seconds...La..Deca-Commander Abriel, do you copy?"

[personal profile] ungrounded 2014-08-03 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
"I copy. Hurry back and secure yourselves." She nodded to the two in the suits as well. Atmospheric venting was a bit smoother when it was done deliberately, but it still could send things flying about as the air escaped to vacuum.
