0004: NEW ARRIVAL BRIEFING

Who: New Arrivals, Graham Baker
Where: Briefing Room
When: Late afternoon, Februaro 30th
Warnings: None

When awakening, you'll find the area you're in to be very busy. The people in the medical ward are polite and understanding, but firmly refuse to answer questions until the briefing. The same goes for the robots in the hangars. Either given hospital outfits resembling very comfortable pajamas, drone bodies, or their own bodies, they are escorted by polite, unyielding people in red and black uniforms to the briefing room.

The Briefing room is large. Not enough to accommodate a Cybertronian, but spacious enough for several dozen people. The chairs are high-backed and well-cushioned, more like comforting eggs floating a foot or so off the ground than anything else. A half completed, but still functional, holographic display is settled into the floor, showing a slowly rotating pyramid.

A few Security personnel, dressed in their red and black uniforms, stand at ease in the rooms in strategic areas. They seem fairly relaxed. One man stands at the head. Graham Baker, a middle-aged man, showing the first signs of balding and wearing a rumpled business suit perhaps a size too large, nervously clasps his hands together and smiles.

[Questions to the NPCs will go in the briefing thread. The rest of the post is there for people to mill about and do whatever with. The mods will not be doing hangar/medical awakenings unless it's specifically asked for.]

How is it not? We've been thrust through time, space, dimensions, we're sailing through the heavens, and we're on a structure that is floating in midair. All of that seems undeniably like magic, not to mention the triple dozen other things I could bring up.

[She raises an eyebrow, practically challenging him to refute all that.]

[Oh, boy. McCoy is not cut out to explain all of this, but he'll at least give it the old college try.]

All of what you see is the byproduct of centuries upon centuries of technological advancement and human ingenuity. There's nothing supernatural about it.

And traveling through time and space is only a matter of playing with the laws of physics. [Just. Don't ask him how.]

The laws of-

[okay, just put everything on hold for a second. centuries upon centuries? at the most, they'd had only eighteen, and even then...]

What year is this?

What you see here is, well, relatively similar to what I'm used to back home. Where I come Earth was mid-way through it's 23rd century.

[He pauses, raising a brow.] Why, what year did were you pulled from?

Twenty-third century...

[oh, this cannot be possible. it cannot, and yet it is, and the shock is so great she has to stumble back and thank a nearby tree for providing apt support. it's too much for a lady to be expected to handle at the moment.]

The year at home is 1889.

Way back in the dark ages, huh? [Dear god, no wonder she thought this place was powered by magic. They didn't even have planes let alone spaceships.

Although he does look mildly concerned when she reactions the way she does. With that in mind, he eases up a little on his blunt explanation, least he throw her into shock.]

Guess there's gonna be a lot of catching up to do.

Several centuries of it...

[she gives her head a little shake, and makes herself smile. not too wide, that'll ruin the entire persona of the moment.]

I suppose employment will have to wait, and education will take its place. Thank heaven they already placed that up as an option. Still, I have you to thank for correcting my foolishness.

Don't mention it. [Really, don't. McCoy's not used to being thanked like this, especially not for doing something out of the goodness of his own heart.]

But if you ever need anything, even if it's just to ask a question, I'd be glad to help. My name's Leonard McCoy.
