For Science

Despite ending up in some bizarre place that wasn't home, again, and running into someone that not even ten minutes before waking up in this place had been trying to kill him. Sam was doing pretty well, likely in part that after twitching out in a corner over seeing a younger version of a face that helped raised him on someone that was trying to kill him, he realized the murdering was not going to happen. For now at least.

This meant poking about the place. More specifically finding used or about to be thrown out electronics and other gadgets he could take apart and figure out. Mostly because he tuned out everything regarding becoming a student here and thus part of what exactly he would gain from such.

This little adventure proved a bit more profitable then he had originally thought, since he hadn't had to barter manual labor to get things. Now how to get it back to his little living space and where to start first was the question. Considering he was going to draw more looks if he kept wandering around carrying battered items.

((OOC: Action tags or prose is more then welcomed brosefs. Also placeholder but I work split shift today so I may not be able to get to tags until late tonight or tomorrow depending on how long I have to spend cleaning my kitchen after this parent dinner.))

"Who said anything about accidentally making a doomsday device? Once you take things apart to see how they work, you should be able to put them back together and make them into something even better, right?"

That's how it worked in anime, anyway.

Pinoko smiled at Sam then. "I am forgetting my manners. I am Pinoko! What is your name?"

She was hoping for the best on the nurse job. She still had to go to the hospital, after all. And Mr. Baker had said something about tests which was a terrifying thought. Though Pinoko was trying hard not to linger on that part.

"I'm new too. Pinoko is from Japan. So I wound up in the future and in space according to the briefing." She sighed softly. "I want to go home."

That last was said quieter, and then she shook her head. Nope. Not going to get upset. She wasn't going to cry.

"So where are you from, Mr. Sam? Since Pinoko thinks that you're just as new around here as I am."
tinywife: (So I was wondering...)

Pinoko was trying really hard not to cry. She'd been trying really hard since she'd gotten here. She'd made all sorts of new friends already. It was just... the harder you tried to quash being homesick, the worse those sorts of feelings got.

That said, Pinoko summoned a small sad smile.

"The Fleet people have said that there was an accident? A mistake? When they ended us bringing us here. They said that they're going to try to get us home but... Pinoko isn't that confident they'll be able to manage it. It was a really big accident that got us here in the first place, and no one seems to know how it happened. So it's not like they can even try to do it backwards and send us home."

Nope. She's not crying. Or sniffling. Maybe coming sort of close, but she's still holding things together. For now.

That sounded oddly specific. And Pinoko looked at Sam sideways.

"Were you the angry kid who kicked and screamed at everyone?" she asked softly. "Did you end up giving your family grey hair and sullen attitudes?" She was only half teasing.

Pinoko looked down. "I'm not going to worry all the time. I just... I miss everyone back home, you know? Do you have anyone that you miss, Mr. Sam?"
tinywife: (I feel so small)

Sam, while you might have just been trying to deflect Pinoko's question, it doesn't work quite the way you were probably going for. Something in the tiny girl's face just breaks and she bursts into tears. Whether they are sad tears or angry tears (or some combination of both) is hard to say right now.

"Pinoko will never stop worrying about her friends or the Doctor! I can't forget about them! What if we never get back? What if it takes us so long that by the time we get back, all of the people we care about are... are..." Those are more tears. She can't even finish that thought.

And then she hugs Sam. Well... she hugs his legs. Mostly because she is still crying.

Pinoko isn't much good for words at the moment. Sorry Sam. This crying isn't really directed at you and it's not really even because of you. A lot of it is just the situation finally actually hitting Pinoko, and her actually starting to deal with it. You just, unfortunately, happened to be in the way.

"Pinoko's sorry, just..."

And there are more tears. Deep breaths Pinoko. She's also still clinging to Sam's legs. Nope. Not being very cohrent yet. She murmurs something that sounds like "Doctor" in between breaths, and something that might be "Largo." She is trying to calm down, but most of what Sam is getting is tears right now.

That small bit of contact helps. It helps to ground Pinoko. And she takes a few deep, shuddering breaths, before taking a few steps back from Sam, and pulling a ridiculously cute handkerchief out of her pocket. She wiped her eyes with it, as well as her nose, and then put it away.

Another breath or two and she looked up at Sam.

"Pinoko is sorry for that. I didn't mean to cry all over you."

She offered him a small, awkward smile then.

"Pinoko is going to buy groceries. And then I'm probably going to go home and make a lot of food. I tend to make an awful lot. You don't have to if you don't want to, but would you like to come over to Pinoko's sometime for dinner? I'm a really good cook!"
tinywife: (pinoko and largo)

Pinoko smiles at him, and this one is less shaky, less awkward.

"You go build your death ray out of toaster parts. Pinoko is stronger than you think! I can handle carrying groceries. But you will come over and eat soon, right? I make really good curry! And I make an awful lot!"

Sam, that wasn't really an offer as much as it was a thinly veiled request.

"Well... if you don't get sucked in, the offer's there. Even if you do, you can still take a break, get food, and go back to it. No pressure, okay?"

Pinoko smiled. "Thanks, Mr. Sam. If you need Pinoko for anything, don't be afraid to ask."

And likely, if you were afraid to ask, Pinoko would do it anyway, Sam. So no worries there.
